Welcome to the Zoo Tycoon Community Download Directory. :bye

The main purpose of this site is to provide an index to the downloads that are available at other Zoo Tycoon sites. So most of the topics, such as the download listings, are locked. That means you may not post in those topics. But some topics, such as this topic, do allow posts. In order to reduce the chance of spam, new members are not allowed to start new topics until they have made 2 posts in existing topics. But there should not be a need for you to start new topics, since there are enough existing topics available for you to post any questions or comments you might have.

We hope the site is beneficial for you. Happy Zoo Tycooning. :eggsmile

I could not find a definite answer on
~Zoo Tycoon 1 Limits And Suggested Solutions by Jay~. It has been a while since I played Zoo and I am getting everything back up and going. I have downloaded some user made creations onto 'updates' but was wondering if I use them for a specific saved game zoo will they disappear from that saved zoo if I take them out of the 'updates' folder. I know the 'updates' folder only holds a certain amount and I only want to keep some creations for making one or two zoos and them replace them for other creations. Forgive me if I misread and did not catch the answer to my question on the other page. Thanks!

Yes, if you use user made objects in a saved zoo, remove their ".ztd" files, and load that zoo again, the objects will be missing in that zoo. There are a number of approaches on how to manage user made objects. In my case, I created the folder C:\ZT\ZooTycoon\dlupdate. In that folder, I have subfolders, 1 for each zoo that uses user made objects. Before I start ZT for a specific zoo, I copy the ".ztd" files from the appropriate subfolder into Zoo Tycoon's dlupdate folder. For example, I have a folder for a ZKL zoo. So when I am about to use the ZKL zoo, I copy the ".ztd" files from C:\ZT\ZooTycoon\dlupdate\zkl to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon\dlupdate". When I am done with that zoo, I remove the ".ztd" files from "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon\dlupdate". I use "dlupdate" because I am using CC. If I did not have a dlupdate folder, I would use the same approach, but use the Updates folder instead.

Good luck and Happy Zoo Tycooning. :bigsmile

hi there and welcome back to the world of zt

my experiemce is as follows:

 • if you remove ztds from updates/dlupdates and accidentally use 'their' zoo, they disappear, never to return - they don't come back
 • f you remove ztds from updates/dlupdates and use other zoos but do not use 'their zoo', then replace all the ztds, then 'their zoo works perfectly

jay is right, there are some great ways of keeping ztd files. i have several half completed ztd management systems, the oldest dating back to 2002...

hope that helps
Dr Rick

How does that work?

That only happens if you "save" the zoo. If you exit without saving and then add in the needed ztds and restart the zoo they should appear.

Also do not use the ingame file loader as that was never updated as the expansions were released and will automatically put things in Updates instead of dlupdate.
There are a lot of read-mes in the older user made files that say to use Updates and that is because they were released before the expansions came out so I would put them in dlupdates.
Do not run patch programs or exe files if you find any.

Nope we have all messed up at some point or other. And so have Blue Fang too.

Now there is also a checkzoo program that will tell you what files are in your zoo

If you have problems with it just post here and Jay will help.

The links to the zoo objects lists program and updated file are not working at zkl. :cry2

Jay

The download links to the Zoo Object Lists Programs and ZT Spreadsheet Subset file are working for me. One does not have to be logged into ZKL to download them.

johnrn1

I'm logged in anyway, and it still doesn't work. My mouse cursor just keeps spinning until a message comes up timed out. Perhaps I have to many windows open. I'll try again later on. :doh

Jay

I just tried again, both logged into ZKL and not, and the download links still work for me. So, yes, it is either something with your computer or with your ISP. And, yes, trying again later, possibly after restarting your computer, might work.

johnrn1

I have refreshed my computer, restarted it and when I click on the link for ZKL in the ZTDD "zoo sites" list, I get a timed out message in about 10 seconds. I can't even get to the site now. I know it is theZKL sites problem because every other site I go to works fine.

Jay

Actually, since I can still get to ZKL, your latest results tell me it is a problem with your ISP and not your computer or ZKL. Whenever you try to go to any site, the messages on the internet go through a lot of computers, including a lot of computers for your ISP. It will be different for everyone, but for my computer to get to this site, the messages go through 17 internet computers and, to get to ZKL, the messages go through 15 or 16 internet computers. If any of the internet computers have a problem, 1 of 2 things happen, depending on your ISP and the companies that own those internet computers. Better companies will have multiple ways to send messages. So if they get a timeout for 1 internet computer, they will try an alternate internet computer. But some companies are not as good and will not try an alternate internet computer. Earlier this year, a number of people had problems getting to this site and it was their ISP's computer having a problem. It took many days for the problem to be fixed and I do not know if one of those people contacted their ISP or if they just waited until it was resolved. It is possible to see all of the internet computers that a message goes through. To see all of the computers that it takes for a message to get here, open a Command Prompt window, type the following in the Command Prompt window, and press the "Enter key":
tracert ztcdd.org

You might see some lines that say "Request timed out.". That is not a problem as long as the last line does not say "Request timed out.". Then you can try the same thing for ZKL:
tracert lunamanar.com

That will show which internet computer is having problems connecting to the next internet computer. If you run "tracert" multiple times for any web site, the results can be different each time, because internet computers can change, depending on which ones are not as busy at that particular instant.

Thanks for the advice. Will give it a shot and see what happens
