Plateosaurus

Before Plateosaurus, or "flat lizard," appeared on our planet 220 million

other large reptiles like the Plesiosaur, or "near lizard." However, this
reptile's size and teeth can attract a zoo visitor as well as the fiercest
dinosaur.

Saber-toothed Cat

The Smilodon, or "knife tooth," fossil is so well known that it was named the
official state fossil of California. Most people know this large mammal by its
more common name--the Saber-tooth Cat. Smilodon is actually the largest of the
saber-toothed family of cats, which also includes Hoplophoneus, Eusmilus, and

by the huge sail across its back. Jutting upward from Spinosaurus' backbone,
this sail reaches six feet high in places and is composed of bony vertebral
spines with tough skin between spines.

Stegosaurus

Stegosaurus, or "roof lizard," is the largest member of the Stegosaurid
family. This 30-foot-long dinosaur carries his head low when on all fours (no
more than three feet above the ground). Four massive legs support the
three-ton mass. The back legs are much larger than the front and end in three
broad, short toes. The front legs have five longer, weight-bearing toes.

Animal Type: styraco

Styracosaurus

Originating from what is now the northwestern United States and Canada,
Styracosaurus, or "spiked lizard," is a herbivore with an armament. A
two-foot-long bony spike juts up like a rhino's from its nose, and six more
large spikes thrust out from its neck fringe. As cruel-looking as these spikes
appear, Styracosaurus uses them primarily for defense and spends most of its
time calmly chomping with its beak at low-growing cycads and other vegetation.

Triceratops

The full name for this dinosaur, Triceratops horridus, is Greek for "horrible
three-horned face." Although "horrible" may be overstating the case, this
creature's face is quite formidable in appearance, with one short horn over a
turtle-like beak and two longer horns directly over its eyes, all set against
the backdrop of an enormous bony neck frill. Triceratops has the largest skull
of any land mammal; its massive head is nearly one-third as long as its body.
A Triceratops has an average weight of over five tons, and can reach thirty
feet in length.

them do things like open doors, communicate to each other in complex bird-like
