Saltasaurus

The Saltasaurus is a sauropode. The most known dinosaurs like the Apatosaurus,
Brachiosaurus and the Camarasaurus belong to this group. All have a long neck
and column shaped legs to lean on. The Saltasaurus belongs to the
Titanosauriden family. This group of sauropodes all has an armored shell on
their backs, which consist out of bone plates and bone growths. Like all other
sauropodes the Saltasaurus is an herbivore (plant eater) who, through his long
neck, can reach the highest trees. The tail might have been used to support
their body, when standing on their back feet to feed. Most sauropods are tall;
some of them could reach the height off 50 meters. The Saltasaurus is not one
of the tallest; they could reach a length of 12 meters and height about 4
meters. They weighed about 6 to 8 tons. The name Saltasaurus comes from the
province Salta in Argentina, where they were found. Remains of the Saltasaurus
were also found in Uruguay, they lived in Chalk.
