Title: Ask questions here concerning information at this site or at DG
Post by: Jay on July 29, 2010, 03:22:39 PM
If you have a question concerning information you see at this site or at the related Zoo Tycoon Designer Guild site (http://www.ztcdd.org/DG/), please feel free to ask your question in this topic. For questions you have concerning downloads at other web sites, please ask those questions at those web sites.

I just downloaded some new uca's. Are the number of downloads listed for each animal viewable on the download  page if the downloads are only available here?

Not sure what you mean. 99% of the downloads listed are hosted at the site(s) named in the post. This site is sort of a road map to where things can be found. The site name is a link to the site and in some cases the page where the file is. We do not direct link to another sites actual file. In many cases you will need to be logged into that site before you can either see or download the file. Files hosted here are mostly from "dead sites" with permission.
There are currently a lot of broken links, a large amount of stuff not in the open because they are missing links and screens. There is a lot more to be added as I find the time

I should have been clearer Fern. If my uca's are ok'd for other people to download, and they are just posted here, but at no other site, will this site show on each download page(s), how many downloads of each uca have been made?  eggs4 :read

I think it might be best for Jay to answer this since I know what I see but not what you might see as far as that goes.

My experience is that each site that hosts a download has a download counter next to the download.  I usually look at each site and add'em up if they are hosted at multiple sites (like my Steve Irwin memorial). :eggwhistle :eggwink  I have looked, and items available here do have a download counter, so for example the LANG--ZTCDD.dll has been downloaded 41 times, so if an item is hosted only here, you will know how many times it has been downloaded.  As for me, the prehistoric tree pack at ZTUF has been downloaded about 500 times, and the Steve Irwin memorial many more than that.  I think they are my current leaders! :eggangel

Generally speaking, no, the download page here would not say how many times your creation was downloaded. It is true that some downloads, such as LANG--ZTCDD.dll here (but not at DG) mentioned by dr rick, are attachments with counts. But for most downloads hosted at this site, we just use simple "http" links instead of using a download system or using attachments. The reason for this is because download systems and attachments use a database. So they would be slightly less efficient and, if something ever happened to the database, they would be difficult to get. Also, although the name will be correct when downloaded, they usually change the name of the file internally. So that makes it very difficult to find the file internally, if we have to. Even for sites that use download systems or attachments for downloads, the "number of times downloaded" are not actually correct. If a person clicks on a link to check the size of a file and then clicks cancel, or if a search engine clicks on a link to see if it works, or if a download does not finish, or if a download has a timeout before it actually starts, they will still be counted as being downloaded. Sometimes a download is downloaded more than once by the same person. Also, if a database has to be reloaded for some reason, the counts could be lower than they should be. Those counts are reasonable estimates, but they have to be treated as estimates. As for the LANG--ZTCDD.dll download here, that will eventually be moved into the main LANG--ZTCDD.dll listing post and then will no longer be an attachment.

This forum software does show how many times a topic has been viewed. That is shown one level higher than the posts themselves. For this topic, for example, it is shown here: http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/index.php?board=226.0
But just like the download counts are not absolutely accurate, the view counts are also not absolutely accurate, although they are more accurate than the download counts, but not as useful.

Recently I got back into playing zoo tycoon and started gathering downloads that I could remember.  I am trying to download from the links to Zookeeper's Lounge but it says the link is not found.

I can't register at Zookeeper's either and darn if I can remember my name there!

I am looking for Drop Zone, Ball Pit, Space Needle, Fairy Tale Castle and Raid on Air.  Have always loved the Devona's and Mark's mods and hoping someone can help me.

Thanks so much!

Have sent a message to Jay

Welcome to DD. There are lots of new files around for the original game. Have fun looking through the areas here.

Thanks so much for helping so fast!  Maybe I can stress your brain some and ask if you remember a mod that would separate your mods in game by zoo, mania and digs?  It was really handy to have.  Looking forward to catching up !

Welcome to DD.

Most of the downloads and images are not currently working at Zookeeper's Lounge. Luna Manar is the owner of Zookeeper's Lounge. Her entire domain, which includes Zookeeper's Lounge but also a lot more, was hacked into by a person in Ukraine/Russia trying to steal people's information. Possibly trying to fix that problem, most of Zookeeper's Lounge download and image folders were deleted. I have all of these things, so they are not lost. But since some of these things are scattered on my computer, Luna was going to check with her web host to see if they had a backup. However, real life has been keeping her busy, so she did not have a chance to check with them yet. Also, her web host just moved to a different facility yesterday, so they were busy moving servers. I do not have an estimate of when things will be back, but I am hoping it will be sometime this week.

As for the registration being turned off at Zookeeper's Lounge, that is something separate. There are illegal programs called spambots that log into sites and add links to other sites. Sometimes these other sites are sites that sell things, but often these other sites are sites that are trying to steal things. These spambots are from all over the world, but the vast majority are from China, Ukraine, and Russia. They make up user names and use temporary emails to register into web sites. I was deleting several every day, but there was still a period of time when the links would be there until I got there to delete them. So I turned off the registration until I could find time to change the software to no longer allow links from new members. However, that will not be happening any time soon.

As for the name you used at Zookeeper's Lounge, you can click "Members" there and try to find it. But things like "GrnMtnGal" or "MtnGal" are not there.

As for separating things by the ZT expansion pack, that is something that comes with the ZT expansion packs. If you have a ZT expansion pack, there will be a filter at the top of the purchase menu. Normally it says "All", but you can change it to ZT, Dino Digs, or Marine Mania. That is mostly for things that come with ZT or one of the ZT expansion packs. Most user made things do not use it. But, excluding zoos, dinos, and tank animals, most user made things will work in everything: the original ZT or any of the expansion packs. A few ZT sites have created purchase menu filters for some of their things, which add other options to that purchase menu filter. Being that these are hacks, I do not use them. My understanding is that they do not work together. It would be possible to rewrite them to allow them to work together, though.

Thank you so much for your response.  I'm sorry to hear about the hacking troubles and hope all turns out well.  Nice to know they are backed up somewhere and it makes me realize I should back up these wonderful mods I find that make a fantastic zoo playing time into a mega fantastic.

To all the wonderful people who take the time to make these mods thank you from the bottom of my heart.  To someone who is mostly housebound now this is much appreciated.  Maybe with all the time I have now I should start looking into making some myself (really easy ones).

Please pass on to Luna I appreciate her site and all she does and tell her as always real life comes first ;)

Welcome to the Zoo Tycoon Community Download Directory. :bye

The main purpose of this site is to provide an index to the downloads that are available at other Zoo Tycoon sites. So most of the topics, such as the download listings, are locked. That means you may not post in those topics. But some topics, such as this topic, do allow posts. In order to reduce the chance of spam, new members are not allowed to start new topics until they have made 2 posts in existing topics. But there should not be a need for you to start new topics, since there are enough existing topics available for you to post any questions or comments you might have.

We hope the site is beneficial for you. Happy Zoo Tycooning. :eggsmile

I could not find a definite answer on
~Zoo Tycoon 1 Limits And Suggested Solutions by Jay~. It has been a while since I played Zoo and I am getting everything back up and going. I have downloaded some user made creations onto 'updates' but was wondering if I use them for a specific saved game zoo will they disappear from that saved zoo if I take them out of the 'updates' folder. I know the 'updates' folder only holds a certain amount and I only want to keep some creations for making one or two zoos and them replace them for other creations. Forgive me if I misread and did not catch the answer to my question on the other page.  Thanks!

Welcome to the Zoo Tycoon Community Download Directory. :bye

Yes, if you use user made objects in a saved zoo, remove their ".ztd" files, and load that zoo again, the objects will be missing in that zoo. There are a number of approaches on how to manage user made objects. In my case, I created the folder C:\ZT\ZooTycoon\dlupdate. In that folder, I have subfolders, 1 for each zoo that uses user made objects. Before I start ZT for a specific zoo, I copy the ".ztd" files from the appropriate subfolder into Zoo Tycoon's dlupdate folder. For example, I have a folder for a ZKL zoo. So when I am about to use the ZKL zoo, I copy the ".ztd" files from C:\ZT\ZooTycoon\dlupdate\zkl to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon\dlupdate". When I am done with that zoo, I remove the ".ztd" files from "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon\dlupdate". I use "dlupdate" because I am using CC. If I did not have a dlupdate folder, I would use the same approach, but use the Updates folder instead.

Good luck and Happy Zoo Tycooning. :bigsmile

  • if you remove ztds from updates/dlupdates and accidentally use 'their' zoo, they disappear, never to return - they don't come back

That only happens if you "save" the zoo. If you exit without saving and then add in the needed ztds and restart the zoo they should appear.

Also do not use the ingame file loader as that was never updated as the expansions were released and will automatically put things in Updates instead of dlupdate.
There are a lot of read-mes in the older user made files that say to use Updates and that is because they were released before the expansions came out so I would put them in dlupdates.
Do not run patch programs or exe files if you find any.

I just tried again, both logged into ZKL and not, and the download links still work for me. So, yes, it is either something with your computer or with your ISP. And, yes, trying again later, possibly after restarting your computer, might work.

I have refreshed my computer, restarted it and when I click on the link for ZKL in the ZTDD "zoo sites" list, I get a timed out message in about 10 seconds. I can't even get to the site now. I know it is theZKL sites problem because every other site I go to works fine.
Title: Re: Ask questions here concerning information at this site or at DG
Post by: Jay on August 17, 2013, 12:14:51 AM
Actually, since I can still get to ZKL, your latest results tell me it is a problem with your ISP and not your computer or ZKL. Whenever you try to go to any site, the messages on the internet go through a lot of computers, including a lot of computers for your ISP. It will be different for everyone, but for my computer to get to this site, the messages go through 17 internet computers and, to get to ZKL, the messages go through 15 or 16 internet computers. If any of the internet computers have a problem, 1 of 2 things happen, depending on your ISP and the companies that own those internet computers. Better companies will have multiple ways to send messages. So if they get a timeout for 1 internet computer, they will try an alternate internet computer. But some companies are not as good and will not try an alternate internet computer. Earlier this year, a number of people had problems getting to this site and it was their ISP's computer having a problem. It took many days for the problem to be fixed and I do not know if one of those people contacted their ISP or if they just waited until it was resolved. It is possible to see all of the internet computers that a message goes through. To see all of the computers that it takes for a message to get here, open a Command Prompt window, type the following in the Command Prompt window, and press the "Enter key":
tracert   ztcdd.org

You might see some lines that say "Request timed out.". That is not a problem as long as the last line does not say "Request timed out.". Then you can try the same thing for ZKL:
tracert   lunamanar.com

That will show which internet computer is having problems connecting to the next internet computer. If you run "tracert" multiple times for any web site, the results can be different each time, because internet computers can change, depending on which ones are not as busy at that particular instant.

Your message got most of the way. The next internet computer should have been malibu.statussecure.com [199.58.109.186], which is where ZKL is. I do not know why the internet computer vlan2505.n2asw02.atc.gsinetblock.net [64.57.219.214] is able to talk to malibu.statussecure.com [199.58.109.186] for me but not for you. What is even more interesting is that your tracert knows lunamanar.com is at [199.58.109.186], yet you are getting a timeout for it. I checked ZKL's ban list and your IP address is not in there. So ZKL itself is not stopping the communication. I also checked that the IP address is not flagged in Project Honey Pot as being a suspicious IP address. All of this means it is the internet computer that is stopping it for an unknown reason. Those internet computers are not part of your ISP company. So, unfortunately, I do not know how it can be resolved. Maybe it will get resolved on its own. But, as happened for those trying to get here earlier in the year, it might not be resolved for a number of days.

Again, thanks very much Jay. And, when going to the first link at DG, I was able to save that page to my bookmarks and I can now access the zkl site, login etc. So, you also fixed my problem with not being able to access the site. Thanks so much.   :bigsmile :clap2

Very discouraged so far.

I've yet to get a single download of anything. All sites seem to lock new members out. You have to sign up, validate e-mail, then get a message that someone has to approve your membership, then that's it, nothing happens. I've tried signing up for over 6 so far.

For such a great game, so many user created and community downloads for it, yet, seemingly no way to access any of them. I mean, why go to all the trouble and work to create something, then make sharing it impossible? I don't get it.

Sorry if I'm breaking any rules by whining, it's just heartbreaking is all. :/

Welcome to ZTCDD. :bye

Yes, it is discouraging. Those that own the various ZT user sites are not usually the ones that create most of the downloads. It costs money to own and run the sites. And real life often gets in the way. So a number of ZT user sites are not working as they used to. But there are at least a few sites where you should be able to get downloads. I do not use ZT2 myself, so I can only talk about ZT1 sites. ZKL (Zookeeper's Lounge) is not currently open to new members (to avoid spambots), but one can get its downloads without being a member. DG (Designer's Guild) is another site that does not allow registering, but one can gets its downloads without being a member. Phoenix (Tek) is a site where you do have to be a member to get their downloads. And it is probably set up so that someone has to approve your membership (to avoid spambots). But it is an active site. I do not know how long it takes someone there to approve a membership, since people have real life to worry about. So if it takes more than a day, you can post about it here. Some staff members from there often check the posts here. As for links to these various sites, there is another post here with a list of links to various sites, including these 3:

Good luck and Happy Zoo Tycooning. :bigsmile

I suggest you do join ZooTek Phoenix. They have a huge amount of files for ZT1 and just a few for ZT2. It is also the most active ZT1 forum area and still do contests. They are fairly quick to validate usually and if you have a problem post here. One reason for staff validations is all the sites have been hit by spambots posting unwanted or sometimes explicit content at some point or another.
Sadly the Zoo Admin links do not currently work as the account has been suspended. They were another that you did not have to join to download.

Hello hello! Are you still over on ZooTek? Seems my old account was deleted (I didn't use ZooTek at all during the 3 years I was at college so that may be why) and unfortunately my old computer died on me and all my downloads for ZT1 were lost. I've had to go through the registration again for that site and others. Do you think maybe you could help me get approved over there please? That site seems to have the vast majority of the downloads and I would really love to be able to use them in my game again.

EDIT. Also, Not sure if anyone is aware, but some of the downloads in the ZT1 directory are still linked for the dead Zoo Tycoon Unleashed site. Is there anywhere else I can get those downloads or am I out of luck? Example, the clay themed bathrooms under buildings.

You are now approved at Tek!   :pompoms

If you go to the downloads section there, and search for "clay", scroll down until you see "Clay Themed Pack by Genkicoll".  It includes a clay bathroom, plus lots of other goodies :)

Omg, thank you thank you thank you! *hugs* I have so very much missed a great many of these downloads in my game. Once you use mods, it's just not the same without them.

I have all the Unleashed files. Some will go to sites that have permissions for them and eventually I will change the links for the others. Problem is that I am the only one doing the links and I also have a life outside of here.
For those that we cannot get permissions on you can always ask at Tek for someone to pm them to you.

Concerning information at this site, is JohnT from Zoo Tycoon and More still here? I tried to join his site last year, only to have my account await approval. It's been 12 months and I'm still waiting approval.

Is the site still active? It seems like it is; the featured downloads change every now and then, and the webpage theme has also changed multiple times. Or is it set to do that?

I'd really like to become a member of that site alongside ZootekPhoenix and ZTCDD!

John is a member both of here and Tek. I think at Tek is goes under the name of JohnRN1. You could try pming him. I have not seen him here since April last year and it looks like he hasn't been to Tek since then. I know at one point he was having health issues.
Some of his animals are at the ZT Designer Guild and if you know the animal you want you could try seeing if someone will email it to you.

Ok, thanks Fern. I don't exactly know what animals/scenery/buildings he has on his site, but one I was interested in was the Brachiosaurus (?) that was one of the featured downloads on the main page.

Also, how do you PM? I'm new here (and I was way to un-attentive to discover how to PM at Tek) and I don't know how to PM.

Thanks Fern.

To send a PM ("Personal Message") here, you would click "MY MESSAGES" in the menu near the top of the page. On that page, you would click "New Message" in the menu at the left of the page. In the "To:" box, you would type the person's member name you are sending the message. They have to be a member here. Then you would type your message in the big box. Then you enter a subject in the "Subject:" box and click "Send message". You should not send messages to a lot of people at once. You should only send messages to people that know you or to staff members here. PM systems at other sites could be different than here, since different sites use different software.

Also, every now and then (especially early in the morning where I live) the whole Zoo Admin site seems to crash. Servers won't load. Then it's fine for about an hour, then stops again. Are they performing maintenance? Or is there a different culprit?
Title: Re: Ask questions here concerning information at this site or at DG

We would not be able to say what is happening with the Zoo Admin site. Most problems at ZT sites are not because of the ZT sites themselves. ZT sites usually pay web host companies. Those web host companies will often put a lot of different, unrelated sites on the same servers. So problems by one of those other sites can cause problems for a ZT site. And sometimes web host companies do maintenance on their servers, which will cause problems for all sites on those servers. And sometimes web host companies update software on their servers, such as database software, and those updates might cause problems for specific sites. Sometimes problems are caused by spammers or malware trying to get into a site. But it is also possible that the owner of a ZT site updates their forum software, sometimes causing problems while it is happening and sometimes causing problems later if there is a problem in one of those updates. So there are lots of possible causes to problems.

No one can join the downloads areas at ZA and you do not need to join to download.
I loaded links to all the missing ones to the actual forum area a while back.  So go to this area: Updated files and Rereleased files at Zoo Admin (no longer exists)

You could try this Super Hack by Jordan (http://zootekphoenix.com/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=2400)
You need to be a member to download at Tek. Or post at Tek asking for the ZA file. A number of people there have all the ZA files.

It looks like you are already a member at Tek (Zoo Tek Phoenix) with a member name of LostworldPr.  You joined on April 16.  If you remember your password, sign on at this link:  http://zootekphoenix.com/forums/index.php?act=idx (http://zootekphoenix.com/forums/index.php?act=idx)
If you don't remember your password, please let me know and I can reset it for you.

To ask for the file, you can post under General ZT Discussion forum.  That's probably the best place to ask.

The link that Fern provided in the post before yours will take you to the Tek listing for Jordan's Super Hack.  In case you can't see it, here is the description for this hack:

This hack makes your staff free and able to swim, rainforest trees can be placed in water, food and poo can be deleted, and your fences and filters stay in perfect condition forever!

This is perfect for (and was meant for) contests so you don't have to waste external downloads with hacks.

NOTE: I DO NOT , I repeat DO NOT claim any invention of these hacks this is a mere compilation for convenience. HUGE 'thank you's to Pixigger, Yeti Ironfist, Loewenfrau, and ZT Design!

UPDATED by Jordan - 6/29/07 - Made hay deletable, made marine specialists and tour guides free
and made tour guides able to swim.

UPDATED by Jordan - 2/13/08 - Now includes the colored fences and rainbow fence available here at ZTP.

Is there any assistance for someone looking to recover files after both their hard drive AND external hard drive got fried by a power surge?

I swear, this only happens to me...anyway, if someone is willing to help me, I compiled a list of downloads that I had in my previous ZT1 game. This took FOREVER to find what was on the list, and frankly, I wasn't able to locate everything. If anyone is willing to help me, I can e-mail them the list. Many of the downloads are on sites that are dysfunctional, like Zoo Admin, or non-existant, like Zoo Tycoon Unleashed.

Any help would be appreciated! :TY

Ok! I'll send it. I've been having troubles logging into Phoenix again, lol. Usually I have to go in and request a new password there every time I try to sign in, becuase we don't get the option for custom passwords. And just so you know, it's a LARGE list. I had a bunch of files combined (all the animals into one) so I could save space in the limited amounts of .ztd department.

A lot of your list are available at Tek and DG so you can get them yourself.
For example the British Wilderness Pack is a Tek file. I have just fixed the link for that one as it was an old link.

Decorative Marine Mania Foliage is at Tek and DG and the Designer Guild link works and will take you to the download page there. You do not have to log in to download there.

Title: Re: Ask questions here concerning information at this site or at DG

The hacks would not be made by Cleesburg. She just made the post here. The person who made the hack is the Author which is listed under the site name.
There is a thread a ZooTek where you can request someone send you files that are no longer available.
Also be aware that some hacks conflict other hacks.

Welcome to the Zoo Tycoon Community Download Directory. :bye

To download something from ZooTek Phoenix, you have to log into ZooTek Phoenix. If you created an account there yesterday, the administrators might not have approved your account yet. Because of a lot of bad people in the world trying to use web sites for their own purposes, ZooTek Phoenix is set up that an administrator has to approve an account before the person can log into the account, and that can take a while.

Hi Raven77 - Welcome to the Zoo Tycoon Community Download Directory!  Give Zoo Tek Phoenix a couple of days to validate your account.  The admins over there are usually pretty prompt on validating if there are not any issues.

Hi & Happy New Year!

I have been using the Zoo Object List Program to make a list of items I used in building a zoo.  If months later I decide to bring up the zoo, I can verify I have all the necessary .ztds installed, insuring the file will open intact.

I love  :heart  this program, it's allowed me to blow the dust off old zoos from 2003 & forward to update or laugh at my designs.  :crazy

I had to replace my old Win7 Ultimate 32bit system & as everything seems to be 64bit these days, I am now running Win7 Ultimate 64bit.  When I run the Zoo Object List Program, the Command Windows appears and you can see the program compile the information.  However, after completion, the chkzoos.lst file only contains three lines of dashes.  I have moved the folder from the root to the programs files directory, & also tried the 'run as administrator', but no luck.  The only software difference from when it worked & now is the 64bit... unless it's Java. I thought Jay wrote the program in C but maybe I need Java installed?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :praise2

Thanks for all the years of dedication in keeping this game alive.  I learned so much from the guides at Zoo Keepers Lounge & it's so appreciated.

Thanks Again!

Microsoft Windows versions are often not compatible with one another. All have mistakes in them. The Zoo Object List Program was written in C and does not use Java. Among other tests, I tested the Zoo Object List Program in 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. It works, but the Windows 7 test did not work as well as the Windows XP test. In Windows 7, after I run checkzoo and chkzoos the first time, if I right-click on a zoo name and select "Open with", it allows me to choose checkzoo or chkzoos. But neither of those work. It opens up Command Prompt windows very briefly and never creates a ".lst" file. Instead, I have to right-click on a zoo name, select "Open with", click "Choose default program", and choose checkzoo or chkzoos from that window. That sounds different than the problem you are experiencing, since you do have chkzoos.lst created. There are 2 approaches you can try. In 2014, I made slight changes in checkzoo.bat to try to get around Microsoft Windows incompatibilities. It is attached. Rename your current checkzoo.bat to checkzoo-old.bat. Then extract checkzoo.bat from the attached checkzooUpdate20140127.zip and put it in the same folder as your current checkzoo.bat. Then use this updated checkzoo to see if that allows you to get a checkzoo.lst for your zoo. If that does not work, you can try running the Zoo Object List Program via Command Prompt. Put zooobjec.exe, ZlListSm.csv, and your zoo into the folder C:\ZT-utils. Open a Command Prompt window. Type the following 2 lines, pressing the "Enter" key after each line:
cd     \ZT-utils
zooobjec.exe     your-zoo-name.zoo     >checkzoo.lst

For example, if your zoo is ZKLZoo.zoo, the second line would be:
zooobjec.exe     ZKLZoo.zoo     >checkzoo.lst

There should now be a checkzoo.lst file in the C:\ZT-utils folder and hopefully checkzoo, lst has the zoo object list for the zoo. If it does not, then hopefully the Command Prompt window has messages saying what the problem might be.

Hi Jay,

Thank you for help, information & suggestions.  I never considered OS Bugs, I just blamed it on 64bit.

I tried your suggestions with your revised .bat file.  In both cases, again, you could still see the information compile in the window. The difference now was that the generated checkzoo.lst file was completely blank instead of the three rows of dashes.

So I sifted through my 'computer graveyard' & found a Windows XP Media Center Edition Laptop.  It actually has Zoo Tycoon CC & ZT-Utils still on it.   :clap2  I'll just update my folders & use that system to run your program before I archive the zoo.  Then, I can also still use the Animal Configuration Checker if I need it.  I'll hang on to the new .bat file, it may come in handy down the road.

I wish I had thought of the laptop before I bothered you.  I was going to install the program on my Husbands system, but in December his motherboard gave out & he came home with a new Windows 10 system. (It might have worked, but I haven't fallen in love with Win10 yet...if ever.)
:doh

Thanks again for your help, & for all the things you do to help others.

Hello, Jordan's tutorial (http://zootekphoenix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1623) on Zoo Tek Phoenix mentions the Behaviours tab in APE and says that nobody knows how it works. That was written nearly 10 years ago; has anyone since managed to figure out how to use it? It looks like something that could be really useful. I asked at Tek and Fern suggested I ask here. Thanks!
Title: Re: Ask questions here concerning information at this site or at DG

Welcome to the Zoo Tycoon Community Download Directory. :bye

The quick answer is never use the Behaviors tab in APE or APExp. APE and most versions of APExp cause problems in the behavior sections of an animal's configuration.

The behavior sections tell ZT which animations and sounds to use in various circumstances: such as when the animal eats or drinks, or when it sleeps, or when it uses a specific toy, or when it is happy and is not doing something else, or when it is angry and not doing something else. There are a lot of behavior sections in an animal's configuration. Most designers do not do anything special with the behavior sections, but sometimes they do. When they do something special, they edit the animal's configuration using a text editor such as WordPad rather than using APE or APExp. Even when nothing special is done for the behavior sections, APE and most versions of APExp cause problems in the behavior sections. So designers should fix those problems using a text editor. The BehaviorSet Sections near the end of the Uca Editing Guide at ZKL say how to fix a number of these problems:

http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=116

APExp 3.2 does not cause these behavior section problems. So APExp 3.2 should be used instead of APE or earlier versions of APExp. Even when using APExp 3.2, the above Uca Editing Guide can still be useful. APExp 3.2 was not released yet since some designers want some changes in it. Zoo Tek Phoenix gave a link to the current version of APExp 3.2, which is actually at this site:

http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/DownloadFiles/ZTABC/APExp3-2.zip

But when using this, one has to remember that it will probably be updated at some point, although it will be released after it is updated.

As part of designing an animal, another useful tool is the checkuca Animal Configuration Checker at ZKL:

http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1203

That might also be updated at some point. Just for information, there is also a different animal configuration checker that is used here and is called uca2post. That is mostly the same as checkuca, but looks at the configuration from a player's viewpoint rather than a designer's viewpoint. It has not been released yet. At some point, it will also be updated and released.

Good luck with your creations.

Edited July 29, 2018 by Jay to change the link for APExp3-2.

Where do I go to request animals? The reason is because I have some animals I'd want mods for for the first Zoo Tycoon game for the PC. These include an African Savanna Hare, a Russian Desman, a Yellow-Throated Marten, a Chinese Ferret Badger, a Porcupine Fish (any species), and a Great Gray Owl.

Animals are tricky especially if you want new graphics which take a long time and are difficult. Not sure there is anyone left who can do new graphics. Statues might be easier. I would suggest posting at ZooTek Phoenix (http://zootekphoenix.com/forums/) as there is one person there who might be able to find some graphics to adapt.
If you do not mind recolours and habitat changed animals some of us have permission to reuse rabbit graphics which could be used for the hare. And maybe use the ingame otter graphics for the marten. The desman might be too small to do, unless done as an animated 1 tile viewing tank type thing. But even then you might not see it clearly.

I don't mind a recolor for the African Savanna Hare. I have some information here.

For foliage I think that it would most likely like the Sengal Date Palm or Baobab Tree.

Welcome to the Zoo Tycoon Community Download Directory. :bye

Normally one would click the site name that is right above the "Click Site name to reach the download". For example, the download listing post for the Tropic Shoppe starts with this:

QuoteTropic Shoppe

Zookeeper's Lounge (http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?t=1963)

Click Site name to reach the download

Clicking "Zookeeper's Lounge" goes to the web page at the Zookeeper's Lounge web site that has the Tropic Shoppe download. If the site name has "(no longer exists)" next to it, then it is not possible to get the download from that site, since the site no longer exists. I believe all of the zoos listed here are for sites that no longer exist. So those zoos would not be available for download. There are some existing sites that have some zoos available for download, but those zoos are not currently listed here.

Have downloaded a few already from the downloads available on this site. However, many of the downloads link to ZooTek Phoenix and when I log in, I don't receive a confirmation email. Are there currently problems with the sign up on that site? I'm really keen to join and access all those great animals there.

Thanks

Hello,

I would like to download the free staff for zt2 but the link does not exist anymore I registered also on Zoo tek Phoenix I just wait for my validation, would it be possible to do it? thank you :)

This site does not have the capability to exchange downloads, but Zoo Tek Phoenix does. Since Zoo Tek Phoenix approves new members manually, it can take a while for a new member to become approved. But if you have not gotten your email validation yet, Cricket might have to help. She is one of the staff members there. When you are able to log in there, you can request the download there. If you have MM2 (the MM expansion pack for ZT2), you would need to ask for the "Free Staff Hack That Includes MM2" (Z-freestaffmm.z2f). Otherwise you would ask for the "Free Staff Hack for ZT2" (Z-freestaff.z2f). At least, that is my understanding. I do not have ZT2.

Good luck and happy Zoo Tycooning. :bigsmile

Two game questions:
1. How do I make my animals in the game, when Animals are selected, show up in alphabetical order?

2. Whenever I select male Masai giraffe , the game crashes. I even had a baby male bred  with a  Ritulated and when his sprite was due to turn to adult, the game crashed. Help!

Welcome to the Zoo Tycoon Community Download Directory. :bye

If you are using the first Zoo Tycoon, we cannot control the order of the animals in Zoo Tycoon's Purchase Menu. Zoo Tycoon orders the animals by the habitat numbers of the animals. So all of the Savannah animals will be together in the Purchase Menu.

If the Masai giraffe is the one that is in aardvarkpackanimals.ZTD, it has problems. The animal configuration checker for that animal shows the following:

8ea85026.uca date: Sat Apr 16 18:21:22 2011
***** Error: cSwims is not 0 but there is no [AmbientAnimsWater] section.
*** Warning: The [] section is unnecessary and could be removed.
*** Warning: cHabitat does not have max [cSuitableObjects] habitat value.
*** Warning: Sum of family, genus, and animal id/type values are < 0.
*** Warning: cPrefIconID 7058 is not in [cSuitableObjects] with value > 0.
*** Warning: uca/ai file contains the word 'Undefined'.
*** Warning: BehaviorSet sections contain duplicate lines.
Animal Type: 8EA85026

The Error means it can crash Zoo Tycoon. It might have other problems as well.

Good luck and happy Zoo Tycooning. :bigsmile

Hello everyone! Pretty much new to this place and first ever time posting. I recently downloaded a lot of things for my copy of Complete Collection. I hit a few roadblocks but I managed to get things to work. But a lot of the official stuff seems to have vanished. Missing items are the official Atlantien items and a huge chunk of the dinosaurs. I tried to check the .ini file and it seems to be ok. Also with one download I got some other weird file types. These include pal., ani., ucs., and dld. files. I'm not sure where any of those go.

Welcome to the Zoo Tycoon Community Download Directory. :bye

For Complete Collection, the official Atlantian objects are inside aqtheme1.ztd that is in Zoo Tycoon's Updates folder. User made ".ztd" files contain ".pal", ".ani", and sometimes ".ucs" files (among other files). Those should stay inside the ".ztd" files and not be extracted. Depending on the Zoo Tycoon site, the browser might download a ".ztd" file as a ".zip" file. User made files should not contain ".dld" files. When you get user made ".ztd" files, most would go in Zoo Tycoon's dlupdate folder for Complete Collection. You should put the user made ".ztd" files there manually and not use the "Get" that is in Zoo Tycoon's main menu because that will cause problems. At this point, you might need to uninstall Zoo Tycoon, delete the Zoo Tycoon folder, and install Zoo Tycoon again.

Good luck.

Do you mean "dll" rather than "dld" files. Dll files are necessary and would go in the main ZT folder. Many of the early single building ones were put in combined dll files later because ZT can only handle a limited amount.

Thanks for the pointers! I've gotten my missing items back. But there is something I'm confused about. I've attempted compressing .ztds and none of them worked. Is it because I compressed too many into one? Is it because my os is unable to? Or is it just I'm bad at stuff like this?

Although ZT has a limit of 3000 objects in each Purchase Menu menu, it is more likely that something was not done correctly when combining or compressing. Many people have problems combining and compressing ".ztd" files. There are a lot of possibilities of what might not be correct. Common problems are extra directory levels, using a type of compression that ZT does not recognize, or missing files. I recommend using the free and open source program 7-zip to create, combine, compress, and test ".ztd" and ".zip" files. There is a post at Zookeeper's Lounge that says how to use 7-zip to combine ".ztd" files:
http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?p=33057#p33057

That topic also says how to get and install 7-zip, how to use 7-zip for other tasks, and how to sometimes get somewhat better compression using a program called shrink.

Good luck and happy Zoo Tycooning. :bigsmile

If you were more specific in what way your new animal is not working in CC, more specific help might be possible. Otherwise, I can only give general help. Making things for ZT can be difficult, especially making animals for ZT. Before trying to make something totally new for ZT, it is good to use APE to make a new ".ztd" for some simple in-game scenery object and some simple in-game animal, without making any changes. Then test those in ZT. That gets one used to how APE works. All versions of APE can cause problems and inefficiencies. The version that causes the fewest problems and inefficiencies is APExp3.2. APExp 3.2 was not released yet since some designers want some changes in it. But this is a link to download it from here:

http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/DownloadFiles/ZTABC/APExp3-2.zip

There are things to help identify some common problems. For checking an animal's configuration, there are the checkuca and uca2post tools that are available at Zookeeper's Lounge (ZKL):

http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1203

Another useful thing is the Uca Editing Guide that is also available at ZKL:

http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=116

If you still cannot find the problem, you could show in a post what your ".uca" looks like, at least as much as possible, since there is a limit here on how large posts may be. The problem could be something other than the ".uca", but that is the easiest to post and usually causes the most problems.

Good luck with your creating and happy Zoo Tycooning. :bigsmile

Title: Re: Ask questions here concerning information at this site or at DG

If you used APExp 3.2 and based your dinosaur on an in-game dinosaur that hatches, then there should not be a problem. But if you used APE 1.x or APE 2.x, that would be a problem. There are a number of lines in the ".uca" file associated with an egg hatching. Probably the most important part are the following lines:
[y\BehaviorSet\bHatch]
f = fPlayWithSound(egg_hatch,hatch)
f = fPlay(idle)
f = fHatch()

APE 1.x and APE 2.x do not know fHatch, so they change the last line, which prevents an egg from hatching. You can edit the ".uca" to make the lines look like the above or, preferably, you can use APExp 3.2 to create your dinosaur and base it on an in-game dinosaur that hatches.

Good luck with your creating and happy Zoo Tycooning.

I HAVE BUNCH OF QUESTIONS FOR JAY, (Yellowrose said you can answer my questions because of extensive knowledge of zoo tycoon games, I have zoo tycoon complete collection)

1) How can I make zookeepers work and move faster? at least I want them to move as fast as scientists with Dr. Scholl cheat. No matter what I did they are awfully slow all the time.
2) How can I make Spinosauruses and Gray Wolves like each other and being compatible with each other. I managed to make the dino not to eat the wolfy, but they are complaining about each other, they say "you go off of this exhibit" and the other say "no, u!"
3) How can I make Guests see more than 10 tiles away in exhibits? the max range is 10 tiles. I tested it and I found at nowhere that anyone made something that make them see more than 10 tiles.
4) How can I increase the zoo guest cap from 1000 to 2000+ ? and how can I manage to add a new award 2000 guest milestone award too? and how can I make the game stable enough to not to make it crash by overloading because of too many units/animations in game?
5) I still dont understand how langZA files work and where should I check to delete the files that I should delete in order to not to cause any conflict? I even don't know where to place those langZA files in order to make them work. I even don't know what things they make "working" without any problem. I need an answer to that! I also need a link for each and every known/important .dll file thats published in various websites, for some reason I cannot reach them and I couldn't found the links in this website too. since they are doing something, its better to have them until I know/learn what actually they are doing. I don't have any of them and I actually want to download those existing dll files but I cannot find them. I know their names but there is no shared link for all of them so I (or other people) can download them too..
6) how can I make a combined gift shop (from zoo tycoon, marine mania, dinosaur digs, and small gift shops like ring toss, and combine all of their gifts into one building?) that contains EVERY GIFT from every expansion pack?
7) how can I make the combined restourants that contains ALL KINDS OF FOODS from every expansion pack?
8) how can I make animals pooping slower? sometimes the amount of poo (especially in combined exhibits) is just exaggerating and staff are unable to clean them fast enough.
9) I see the waterfall like structures in other forums and u can make them via editing the terrain,
(https://zootekphoenix.com/forums/topic/10741-download-requests/page/51/?tab=comments#comment-324909)
how can I also make them? (I'm thinking to use the stronghold crusader's or tiberian sun's waterfall graphics to make them look cooler if possible) if not, where can I find it? (edit: I found it, and they are absolutely cool already lmao)

thats all the questions dear jay, for now. Thanks a lot for every effort you put into this game.

Quote from: vault1) How can I make zookeepers work and move faster? at least I want them to move as fast as scientists with Dr. Scholl cheat. No matter what I did they are awfully slow all the time.

"Work" and "move" are two different things. By default, zookeepers and scientists walk at the same speed. Their cSlowRate setting determines how fast they move when walking, and both have it set to 33. There are separate research categories that, once the research is done, will increase their cSlowRate setting by 40%. Supposedly the Dr. Scholl cheat will cause all scientists to walk twice as fast. The work speed is more complicated, because it depends on the type of work. Zookeepers and scientists check for work at the same rate. But doing work might be different. For example, when cleaning poo, the zookeeper supposedly does its clean animation 4 times, while the scientist does its clean animation 2 times. But I have not checked how long each of their clean animations are to see if that means the zookeeper cleans slower. All of these could probably be changed with a hack, but I avoid these types of hacks because these types of hacks can conflict with one another. The ".ztd" files that come with ZT should never be changed directly because ZT had to do overrides on their own to make the expansion packs work. Instead, hacks should be in their own ".ztd" files and put in folders that do not have ".ztd" files that come with ZT in them. For example, when I did the Developer Menu Hack, I recommended that a folder called "hacks" be created and I said how to make ZT see that hacks folder.

Quote2) How can I make Spinosauruses and Gray Wolves like each other and being compatible with each other. I managed to make the dino not to eat the wolfy, but they are complaining about each other, they say "you go off of this exhibit" and the other say "no, u!"

Of course, you are talking in generalities, since the animals do not actually say those messages. Again, this would be a hack, since they are animals that come with ZT. Rather than an animal hack, I would have created a user made Spinosaurus and a user made Gray Wolf that use user made shelters (or a shelter hack). Animal compatibility is a complex subject. For perfect compatibility, they have to like the exact exhibit. Then they have to be configured to tolerate each other, which is also complex. The [cCompatibleAnimals] section in an animal's configuration says what other animals, families, or genera a specific animal likes. The Gray Wolf has an ID of 5015, Family ID of 5207 (Canine), and Genus of 5111 (Wolf). The [cCompatibleAnimals] section for the Spinosaurus does not have 5015 or 5111, but it has 5207 with a value of -20. So to make the Spinosaurus tolerate the Gray Wolf, that has to be countered by adding the following 2 lines to the [cCompatibleAnimals] section of the Spinosaurus:
v = 5015
v = 20
Or if you want the Spinosaurus to tolerate all wolfs instead:
v = 5111
v = 20
Or if you want the Spinosaurus to tolerate all canines, the following pair of lines would be removed:
v = 5207
v = -20
A similar thing would have to be done in the [cCompatibleAnimals] section of the Gray Wolf. The Spinosaurus has an ID of 5091, Family ID of 5216 (Dinosaur), and Genus ID of 5141 (Spinosaur). To make the Gray Wolf tolerate the in-game Spinosaurus, the following 2 lines would have to be added to the [cCompatibleAnimals] section of the Gray Wolf:
v = 5091
v = 20
Or if you want the Gray Wolf to tolerate any Spinosaurus, including user made ones:
v = 5141
v = 20
Or if you want the Gray Wolf to tolerate all dinosaurs, remove the following pair of lines:
v = 5216
v = -20

Quote3) How can I make Guests see more than 10 tiles away in exhibits? the max range is 10 tiles. I tested it and I found at nowhere that anyone made something that make them see more than 10 tiles.

The distance might actually be 20 tiles. Again, this would be a hack. Guest hacks in particular should be avoided unless they are community wide ones. At one time, designers were creating new working benches, but those are guest hacks and they conflicted with one another, causing guests to get stuck. The tile distance a guest can supposedly see, assuming no obstructions, is half the cSearchRadius setting.

Quote4) How can I increase the zoo guest cap from 1000 to 2000+ ? and how can I manage to add a new award 2000 guest milestone award too? and how can I make the game stable enough to not to make it crash by overloading because of too many units/animations in game?

Most likely, overloading ZT with a lot of animations would cause it to run slow rather than a crash. And when it starts to run slow would be based on how powerful one's computer is. Making a new award is very complex, involving creating a ".scn" file and adding messages to a ".dll" file, which involves a ".dll" editing program. As for changing the maximum number of guests, the following post at Zookeeper's Lounge says how to change it:

http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=123#p36958

Quote5) I still dont understand how langZA files work and where should I check to delete the files that I should delete in order to not to cause any conflict? I know their names but there is no shared link for all of them so I (or other people) can download them too..

"lang....dll" files, such as langZA03.dll, contain messages for ZT to show. All "lang....dll" files would go in ZT's main folder. But a number of old "lang....dll" files conflicted with the ZT expansion packs and would cause sporadic crashes. There is a topic at Zookeeper's Lounge that mentions various "lang....dll" files, although it is slightly out-of-date:

http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1974

Some "lang....dll" files can only be gotten by being a member of their site and some "lang....dll" files are not currently available. The "lang....dll" files that are in the open are the one at Zookeeper's Lounge and those at the Zoo Tycoon Designer Guild, although at least one is slightly out-of-date:

http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=816

http://www.ztcdd.org/DG/index.php?board=235.0

Quote6) how can I make a combined gift shop (from zoo tycoon, marine mania, dinosaur digs, and small gift shops like ring toss, and combine all of their gifts into one building?) that contains EVERY GIFT from every expansion pack?
7) how can I make the combined restourants that contains ALL KINDS OF FOODS from every expansion pack?

The ring toss is not a gift shop; it is a game that can award a gift as a prize. It is not recommended to have a gift shop that has all possible gifts or a restaurant that has all possible foods. The building info window inside ZT can only show 5 sold items at the most. And I prefer to have no more than 4 sold items in a single building because the buildings in the original ZT contained no more than 4 sold items.

Quote8) how can I make animals pooping slower? sometimes the amount of poo (especially in combined exhibits) is just exaggerating and staff are unable to clean them fast enough.

This is another complex subject. If I remember correctly, the cDirtyIncrement setting for each animal says how quickly the animal reaches the need to poo. But there are many factors that can cause a lot of poo. If an animal does not like something, they reach the need to poo more quickly. And one thing they do not like is poo. So others pooing can cause an individual animal to poo faster. Some animals take longer to get upset about something than other animals. Also, the more animals in an exhibit, the more poo that is produced.

He did not answer 9.

9. Zoo tycoon did at one point intend to create waterfall terrain but changed its mind. There is no graphic in the game to link to. I suspect like some other things it was too complicated. Any waterfalls you see in screenshots are fences. Both genki and I created sets. These are available at ZooTek.

Greetings!!   Well here we are 3 years after the above posts.  My Windows XP Laptop bit the dust, so I tried your command prompt solution for Checkzoo on my 64bit Win7 Ultimate Desktop & it worked perfectly. :pompoms
Next I guess I need to try it on my Win 10 laptop, but at least I have my Win7 machine to fall back on.  (Disconnected it from the internet since support ended.)

Just wanted to say  :TY one more time!

Hi, I got two designing questions that have been bugging me for a while.

1/ I have recently finished redesigning the dinosaurs' purchase icons to match with their new terrain from P.Rex's famous NoGrassPls hack. However, P.Rex also made 3 bonus Ice Age animals that need new purchase icons as well. Each of these animals only has a text file, a .uca, and a sound file. Every other file that they need was linked straight to the files of the original animal on which they are based on, which makes creating a new purchase icon or recoloring the animal impossible. Is there a way to recode them so they would use their own animation and icon files?

2/ How does one resize an animal in Zoo Tycoon? I'm thinking of something like tetsuiga's Megalodon, which is an upscaled great white.

As far as I know, Zoo Tycoon does not have the ability to resize an individual animation in a zoo. So designers use graphics programs to resize images frame by frame, which is not easy. Most designers use 2D graphics programs. I use the free and open source programs GIMP and ImageMagick. A few designers use 3D modeling programs.

Yes, it is possible to change an existing animal to have their own animation and icon files. I use the program Zoot to extract or load ".png" graphics files from and to ZT image files:

http://www.ztcdd.org/DG/index.php?topic=4773.msg18197#msg18197

When I create new icons for a land animal, I use Zoot to extract one of the frames from the E view of the animal's stand animation. Then I use a graphics program to reduce the size of the image. If I am creating a new purchase menu icon, I add the image to a background image. If I am creating an icon for ZT's animal list, I do not add the image to a background image. If needed, I create the necessary folders in the ztd structure. Animal purchase menu icons are in ic...... type of folders. Animal list icons are in ls...... type of folders. Plaque images are in pl...... type of folders. Then I use Zoot to load and position the image. If needed, I create the ".ani" files in the folders. Those files are text files. So WordPad (not Notepad) could be used to create them. I copy ".ani" files from something in ZT and then use a program like WordPad to change them for my purposes. Sometimes changing icons will leave older ".pal" files in the ztd structure that can be deleted. If I had to create new folders, I then change or add Icon, cListImageName, or cPlaqueImageName settings in the ".uca" file. All of this might sound like a lot of work, but it actually does not take much time once one gets experience doing it.

Although icons do not take much effort once one has experience, as mentioned above, it is not easy to make new animations. If a person is changing only the characteristics, icons, plaque, animal info, or sounds of a ZT animal, then it is most efficient to link to ZT's animations directly instead of having a copy of the animations. But if one does create new animations, Zoot can be used to load and position the animations, WordPad can be used to create ".ani" files, and the Animations sections in the ".uca" file can be changed to use those animations.

I see. I do have GIMP but it does sound like an arduous task that I couldn't justify spending time doing at the moment.

Thank you. That .ani file was the key! The animals didn't use my custom icons earlier because I didn't edit the .ani file in the ic... folder. New animation aside, I take it that you would still need to link the animal to separate model/animation files and a .pal file if you want to recolor the animal? (although I'm still not sure on how to make the animals use a new .pal file. Changing the lines in the .uca and renaming the desired .pal file to the animals' APE ID don't seem to do the trick)

A new problem I'm running into now that the animals can use my new purchase icons is those transparent grains when I import the new icon file in. These grains almost always appear when I import a new icon file, but I used to be able to fix them by exporting the file again, then fill those grains in with colors already present around them to maintain the number of colors in the file. That trick doesn't seem to work well for these tundra animals:

Yes, animation files and at least 1 ".pal" file are needed to do a recolor. It was a bad design choice by Blue Fang. They should have had a setting in the ".ani" file to say which ".pal" to use for the animation folder. But instead, the ".pal" file name and path are inside each animation file. Since animation and ".pal" files are binary files, tools such as Zoot, APE, and ZT Studio are needed to create the animation and ".pal" files in the format that ZT expects, which includes putting the links to the ".pal" files inside the animation files.

There are many approaches to recoloring animals. I use Zoot and APExp 3.2 for things I do. But those tools are older tools. They create a ".pal" file for each animation file. Jeff's ZT Studio allows creating a single ".pal" file for all animations of an animal. Also, one cannot control the order of the colors in ".pal" files created by Zoot and APE. That means when an animal is recolored, either all the animations have to be loaded again, or a "try and hope it works" technique has to be used. But Jeff's ZT Studio can reload ".pal" files without changing the order of the colors in the ".pal" files. Other than starting ZT Studio, I do not have experience using it because my computer is old and requires to be run in certain ways in order to get the newer versions of .NET working, which are needed by ZT Studio. But for people creating ZT animals or recolors, I recommend people to look at ZT Studio. If you do, be sure to also look at its Wiki, since that Wiki talks about recolors and color palettes. A link to the ZT Studio site is in its listing post here:

There are many things that can cause the grains. Your general approach to fix them is correct. Zoot and APE use the top leftmost pixel as what color to change to transparency in images. So designers set that pixel to magenta, and make sure there are no other magenta pixels in the image unless those pixels are also to be changed to transparency by Zoot and APE. The images should be saved as ".png" files in the RGBA or RGB format. Any other type of file or format can cause problems. If RGBA format is used, transparent pixels are also saved in the image. But Zoot and possibly APE look at what the pixel colors used to be for transparent pixels. So when saving ".png" files in graphics programs, the option to also save the background colors in the ".png" file should be used and one has to make sure those background colors (ie, the colors of the pixels before they were made transparent) are the same color, usually magenta. Some tools in graphics programs will change that background color to black, but black is often used as an actual color in images. So one has to make sure the background color of the transparent pixels are still something like magenta. Because of this, many designers do not use transparency in the graphics programs. Although it is more work, before I save a ".png" file in GIMP, I do a Select by Color, change the threshold to 0, select a transparent pixel, do a color fill of the selected region to Magenta, and press the Delete key to change the Magenta back to transparency. That way I know the background color of the transparent pixels is Magenta when I save it into a ".png". ZT does not understand opacity in ZT images. Sometimes when coloring in a graphics program, the graphics program will blend colors together using opacity. That has to be avoided.

I see. I will take a look at ZT Studio when I have more time.

The magenta dot trick though, works marvelously! Thank you for the tip!

Hello, its me I'm back again, I have a question for fern:  cannot get that award (outstanding animal health plaque) and I dont know how to fix it, I checked most of the .ztd files but couldn't found anything related to that award. where can I find it? I checked the links but I couldnt found anything working. could you share it please? (I also need the lang dll of zoo tycoon center / or better to say: http://www.ztcdd.org/DG/index.php?topic=4408.0 / http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1974&p=29794&hilit=lang#p29794 all those dll files I cant find... can you share all of it with me jay?)

Edit: Wolf + spinosaurus, I managed to do it , animals pooping speed is problem, they do it so fast...

zoo staff movement speed: still very slow. I played with every line, they still walk so slowly and I dont know how can I make them walk faster, they cannot work faster tho, tried it, they have to complete the full sequence of animation. But no matter what I tried to do, these noobs cannot walk faster.
I have an idea tho: can I implement another cheat like Dr. Scholl not just for scientists but also zookeepers and marine specialists too? especially marine ones, I want them to especially swim faster. Whatever I tried I couldn't made it work.

I also combined speedy guest + happy guest + antipuke guest into one, its working perfectly well. but I still dont know how to edit the maximum distance that guests can see. I'm confused about the line for it. (or is there a way to make animal not to feel crowded even with 1000 guests watching it?)

Question: where can I find the latest system files (.dll and ZA/lang/AI files) to make user created items to work?
I come here time to time to check whats new and how can I edit/play with files. I also cant find rock observation area and concerate observation area's files. help.

I also dont know why the game crashes at certain point, its probably because of too much objects or animations, either way game should work but it crashes anyway.

Edit2: Sable Antelope file is missing. I dont know where to find it. I actually want to know does somebody saving all those user created and/or original files all in one place to re-upload them (or just give me all of the existing files in one zip xD) (edit3: found sable antelope)

is there any discord server I can join? a server where zootek + zooadmin + ztcdd + all the zoo tycoon design websites users can meet and share ideas and help out newbies.
my god, its been so many years and I just love this game so much...

"Outstanding Animal Health Plaque" that comes with DD and CC does not work. I created AwardForFewSickAnimalsAtYear1EndByJay.ztd that will give the "Outstanding Animal Health Plaque" message. It is not perfect because it can be triggered when it should not be. But since that message was always intended to be just a message without any reward, that is not a big deal. The download listing post is at the following link, and you would click the "ZT Designer Guild" site name to go to where you can download it:

Some "lang....dll" files can only be gotten by being a member of their site and some "lang....dll" files are not currently available. This ZTCDD site needs to be updated concerning download listings for "lang....dll" files. But most likely you already have all of the "lang....dll" files that you need. "lang....dll" do not do anything on their own. They only contain messages. When you download a ".ztd" from a site, the site should say which "lang....dll" you need, if any, and the mentioned "lang....dll" file would be available.

QuoteEdit: Wolf + spinosaurus, I managed to do it , animals pooping speed is problem, they do it so fast...

ZT is meant to be challenging. For some ZT animals, research has to be completed for the animals to be managed better. There are many types of strategies to use as well. For example, keeping just the minimum number of ZT animals in an exhibit might allow them to be managed better.

Quotezoo staff movement speed: still very slow. I have an idea tho: can I implement another cheat like Dr. Scholl not just for scientists but also zookeepers and marine specialists too? especially marine ones, I want them to especially swim faster. Whatever I tried I couldn't made it work.

The cSlowRate setting is what determines how fast the staff will walk. The higher the number, the faster they walk. I suspect that setting is used for swimming as well. There is research that increases their cSlowRate setting by 40%. The "Dr. Scholl" cheat is built into the zoo.exe program itself. So something just like that could not be done. But it should be possible to create a ".ztd" similar to AwardForFewSickAnimalsAtYear1EndByJay.ztd that increases the staff cSlowRate setting instead. However, again, the intended way to manage animals better is to complete ZT's research and to use various strategies.

QuoteI also combined speedy guest + happy guest + antipuke guest into one, its working perfectly well. but I still dont know how to edit the maximum distance that guests can see. I'm confused about the line for it. (or is there a way to make animal not to feel crowded even with 1000 guests watching it?)

Animals can be changed not to feel crowded, but it would have to be done for specific animals. The disadvantage of having a guest hack like you did is then you will not be able to have other guest hacks, including the community guest hack that allows guests to sit on a number of user made benches. The intended way to keep animals from feeling crowded is to have a portion of their exhibit walls using exhibit walls that guests cannot see through.

QuoteI come here time to time to check whats new and how can I edit/play with files. I also cant find rock observation area and concerate observation area's files. help.

The "Rock Observation Area" configuration is in scenery/other/view2lc.ai and the "Concrete Observation Area" configuration is in scenery/other/view2rc.ai, both in scenery.ztd and updated in ZUPDATE\scenery2.ztd. But you should not edit files that come with ZT. That can cause unexpected crashes. If you want something to behave differently, it is better to use APExp 3.2 and create a new version.

QuoteI also dont know why the game crashes at certain point, its probably because of too much objects or animations, either way game should work but it crashes anyway.

As mentioned, changing ZT's files can cause unexpected crashes. But if your game is crashing without changing ZT's files, then it is either a problem with a user made object or it is one of the known problems with ZT. There is a "Causes of ZT crashes and how to avoid them" topic at DG:

http://www.ztcdd.org/DG/index.php?topic=5452.0

I believe the Designer's Treehouse site (part of Zoo Admin) has used discord, but I don't believe anyone monitors it any more. For general questions, those can be asked here. But for questions that involve detailed answers or research or designing, it would be best to post at some place like Zoo Tek Phoenix, since that site currently has the most activity. However, there is still no guarantee that someone will be willing to give detailed answers, or to do the necessary research, or to do or help with designing.

yes I know, but I'm more into hax/stuff changes, to make the game more enjoyable for my niece xD she loves to keep as many animals as she can in the cage, and the only problem so far is zookeeper's movement speed and animals pooping ratio, animals poop fast while zookeepers are being turtles about it. and when I say " The intended way to keep animals from feeling crowded is to have a portion of their exhibit walls using exhibit walls that guests cannot see through." she says "no uncle, I know how frustrating it is to go to an aquarium to see the animal and you are not seeing the animal, heck no its free real estate everyone sees the animal and my magnificent zoo" (she's 9 btw and talks like that)
let me share another conversation: M = me, N = niece / this happened when I see her screaming "move you dumb human! you're hungry so get in a restourant or food stand and eat! and dont puke on ground there is a trash can!"
M: why do you want the guests move fast?
N: so they see everything faster and go to eat and get out like they do to us on school trip
M: then why you dont want them to puke?
N: its disgusting! so much work for the workers too!
M: then why do you want all guests to be happy?
N: to not to feed T-rex'es with them!
M: fair enough.

I can answer some of these but not all.

You do not need the ZT Center.dll as its messages are also in the ZA03.dll The ones you really need are at ZooKeepers Lounge has 1, Tek has 5, Designers Guild has 5 as well. That covers most of what you need.
User made dll files do not control whether or not guests use the building. The contain the building names, tooltips, gift names, food/drink item names.
If a guest is not using a building then it is likely configured wrong (most have been fixed) or it is scenery only. Now most user made scenery will not be gawked at/looked at or photographed because to put the lines in that control that also causes any ucs file to crash when they try. If you can name a file you are having problems with I can test it for you. Or have a look at the Additional info here and see if it lists any problems.

Actually it will cause problems. The guest hack is very, very picky. If you have more than one ingame your guests will likely get stuck and then they get angry. I once found 200 guests stuck on one tile. And also stuck on benches. Also the community guest hack is soon to be updated as I have some new files coming that I have yet to finish that require it. Also there is more than one official guest hack ingame. With each expansion they overrode the previous one.
And there is not one line. There are lots of lines for each thing.
There is a big problem with a lot of hacks because many are in conflict with either other hacks or files. One of the things I have been working on as update info here is try to add the current dlls required and what conflicts there are.

Many of the files currently unavailable are in line for being fixed as they are older files. This site has permissions for some. Some will go to Tek. Some will go to the Guild. But there is no way I am releasing problem files to anywhere if they need fixing.
If you know a specific file you want there is a request thread at Tek which I keep an eye on and so do a couple of others.

Apparently you are not doing something correctly. I tested it and the zookeepers definitely went very fast. I extracted staff/keeper.ai from ZUPDATE1\staff4.ztd. I changed both "cSlowRate = 33" lines to "cSlowRate = 255". I zipped staff\keeper.ai into fasterZookeeperHackTest.ztd. I put fasterZookeeperHackTest.ztd into CC's dlupdate folder. I then tested in ZT. The zookeepers moved around almost 8 times faster than before. It took several seconds for them to get from one corner of the screen to another, whether it was moving around the zoo or moving around the exhibit. I then did another test. It does not make sense to have the slow speed being faster than the medium and fast speeds. So I changed the two cSlowRate lines to "cSlowRate = 300", the two cMediumRate lines to "cMediumRate = 300", and the two cFastRate lines to "cFastRate = 300". I also deleted 2 of the 3 "f = fPlayWithSound(feedc,feed_carn)" lines, 2 of the 3 "f = fPlayWithSound(feedh,feed_herb)" lines, and 3 of the 4 "f = fPlayWithSound(clean, rake)". That way when the zookeeper places food or rakes poo they would only do the animation one time instead of multiple times. I then zipped staff\keeper.ai into fasterZookeeperHackByJay.ztd, put fasterZookeeperHackByJay.ztd into CC's dlupdate folder, and tested in ZT. Again, everything worked as I expected. Of course those speeds are unrealistic. So you would have to decide what speed is best for you. The speed settings should also be changed in the ".ai" files for the other staff.

Quote from: vaultto make the game more enjoyable for my niece xD she loves to keep as many animals as she can in the cage, and the only problem so far is zookeeper's movement speed and animals pooping ratio, animals poop fast while zookeepers are being turtles about it.

With zookeepers moving a lot faster, the pooing might no longer be an issue. Anything that can make an animal unhappy can make the animal more likely to poo. So changing animal configuration could involve a lot of lines. The "Change" settings involve decreasing an animal's happiness. If you do change animal configuration, you might want to change the cCrowdHappinessChange setting to "cCrowdHappinessChange = 0" so that they do not become less happy from a lot of guests. Changing the cOtherAnimalSickChange setting to "cOtherAnimalSickChange = 0" would prevent them from becoming less happy if other animals in the exhibit become sick". Changing the cNumberMaxChange setting to "cNumberMaxChange = 0" would prevent them from becoming less happy if there are too many animals in the exhibit. Changing the cAngryHabitatChange setting to "cAngryHabitatChange = 0" and the cVeryAngryHabitatChange setting to "cVeryAngryHabitatChange = 0" would prevent them from becoming less happy if the exhibit is not suitable enough. You would have to decide if other "Change" settings matter in your case. Be sure to pay attention to "Change" lines versus "Chance" lines. Animals that can use tanks also have various "MurkyWater... Change" settings.

Although those settings prevent them from becoming less happy in those particular instances, that would not change Zookeeper Recommendations or exhibit suitability. So you might want to change other settings. cHungerIncrement and cKeeperFoodUnitsEaten are how fast an animal becomes hungry and how much they eat at a time. cCrowd is how many guests they can tolerate at a time. cNumberAnimalsMax is the maximum number of animals they can tolerate in their exhibit, including other species. cAnimalDensity is how many tiles of space each animal wants for themselves. I believe setting cDirtyIncrement to 0 would prevent an animal from pooing.

Quote from: vaultI dont have many of it, the ones thats been mentioned in the list, while I'm having the most of the custom user made items, for some reason guests are not using it.

The "lang....dll" files only contain messages. So not having one will not cause guests to not use a building. If the "lang....dll" is missing, the building will not have a name, a tooltip, or a guest thought. But guests will still use it. Therefore, if you have guests not using a building, it is a problem unrelated to "lang....dll" files. It could be a problem with the building's configuration, but it could also be a problem with the zoo, such as accidentally blocking the building's entrance.

Quote from: vaultI want the guests see the edge of the map

I believe the cSearchRadius setting in guests.ai is how far a guest can see. But I have not tested it. The number probably represents the number of half tiles in each direction.

That doesnt. For some reason and I don't know what causes this, both marine specialists and zookeepers does not moves any faster in my game. I extracted and changed EVERY keeper.ai in every folder I found, result is the same, no matter what I did they are not moving ANY faster. it works on tour guides and maintaneance workers, but this doesn't work for zookeepers and marine specialists for me. I swear this does not work for me.

QuoteThe "Change" settings involve decreasing an animal's happiness. If you do change animal configuration, you might want to change the cCrowdHappinessChange setting to "cCrowdHappinessChange = 0" so that they do not become less happy from a lot of guests.

That works too. THANKS A LOT for that.

QuoteI believe setting cDirtyIncrement to 0 would prevent an animal from pooing.
does higher number means longer time? or is it the threshold that determines the timing? or is it about the envorimental zoo keeper announce stuff? I'll look for it.

QuoteActually it will cause problems. The guest hack is very, very picky. If you have more than one ingame your guests will likely get stuck and then they get angry. I once found 200 guests stuck on one tile. And also stuck on benches.

I know its very picky but I managed to combine 3 different guest hack in one file. (using this 3 file seperately causes conflict yes)
I know there is lots of lines, but if you compare those different files (original one + whatever you want to implement to) you'll see the changed lines are actually similar, sticking as much as possible to the original file allowed me to make this 3 different file to work as one. guests are not puking, walks faster, not getting much angry and not getting stuck at one place and I just managed to make them see about 50 tiles away too, I got a notification of "x animal looks overjoyed" from around 50 tiles.. I wonder what else I can change.

question: is it possible to change whole coding system of the game into python? or possibly add up some kind of AI about the in-game notification system, for example immediately goes to the exhibit if an animal is sick or unhappy or autosell animals if an exhibit passes a certain amount?

Quote from: JayApparently you are not doing something correctly.

I believe you when you say it is not working for you. But as I said, since it worked for me, apparently you are not doing something correctly. But I cannot tell you specifically what, and there are too many possibilities. You might be using some other zookeeper hack at the same time. Or you didn't use "staff/keeper.ai" for the modified file name. Or you are not putting the file in the proper place. Or you used "cslowrate" instead of cSlowRate". Or your various hacking is causing ZT to be confused. There are just too many possibilities to say. If you have a version of ZT without any other hacks and without any user made files and you do the test the same way I did, it will work.

I do not know how ZT works concerning animals and poo, since I never tested for it. The reason I believe setting cDirtyIncrement to 0 will prevent an animal from pooing is because at one time multiple people mentioned an older version of the Caribbean Flamingo did not poo and, when I looked at its configuration, it had cDirtyIncrement set to -20. All other animals at that time had cDirtyIncrement set to numbers greater than 0. But I never did testing to understand it in more detail. However, if I had to guess, I suspect that a higher number makes the animal poo sooner.

All of the AI logic is built into the zoo.exe program. So no, we cannot use scripting languages to change the AI. We can only influence the AI via configuration.

So, I went to this post here on ztcdd
http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/index.php?topic=11476.0
and it links to a google drive with all the files presumably from Khaydar's site. The problem I'm having is that the files don't give me an option to download them from google drive. I don't know if the files there are messed up or if this was never meant to link directly to google drive or what, but I'm curious about how to go about this. Hopefully this isn't broken and I am just being dumb as to how to download this, lol. Any help would be appreciated  :TY

Welcome to ZTCDD. :bye

Google drive has a number of limitations. It will not work at all in some browsers. In other browsers, one can download all the files in a single zip, but not download individual files. That is the approach I use. Supposedly in other browsers, individual files can be downloaded. I will explain what I do, and then I will explain how I believe it is supposed to work.

When I go to Khaydar's google drive, there is a "DOWNLOAD ALL" on the top right of my browser window. I click that. A message appears on the bottom right that google drive is putting the files in a zip. That takes several seconds. Then it says it is done. Several seconds after that, my browser opens its "Save As" window. I use that to save the zip. In this case, the zip is about 585 MB. So hopefully your internet service can support that. Mine does.

As for downloading individual files, the Dimetrodon is not available on its own. In the ZTCDD link you gave, it says "Part of the Walking With Zoo Tycoon - Paleozoic Pack". So on the google drive, you would click the word "Packs". That will show the Packs that are available. Move the mouse pointer over the symbol above the words "Walking With Zoo Tycoon - Paleozoic", but do not click anything. When the mouse pointer is moved over that symbol, a small icon appears slightly above it and to the left, which looks like a down arrow with a line under it. Clicking that small icon is supposed to download that file. For this file, clicking that small icon gives the message that it is too large for their antivirus to scan and it gives the choices to CANCEL or DOWNLOAD ANYWAY. In my case, though, clicking DOWNLOAD ANYWAY does not do anything. But maybe it will in your browser.

The google drive has another way to show and download files. There is an icon to the right of "DOWNLOAD ALL". Clicking that icon switches to "List Layout". When moving the mouse cursor over the words "Walking With Zoo Tycoon - Paleozoic" in List Layout, the word "Download" will appear to the right. Clicking that "Download" word is supposed to download the file. Again for this file, it gives the message that it is too large for their antivirus to scan and it gives the CANCEL and DOWNLOAD ANYWAY. And again for my browser, clicking DOWNLOAD ANYWAY does not do anything.

Good luck and happy Zoo Tycooning. :bigsmile
